Optimal rim size for E60?

Another thing to consider too is the size of your brakes. If you have one of the smaller engines, consider a brake upgrade if you go with a big wheel. For me nothing stands out worst than big open wheels and tiny brake rotors.

fills up the wheel well nicely
19s r just tad too small, plus most of us arent track junkies so egh
21s r a tad too big and too heavy
plus 20" tires r easier to come by than 19s or 21s

just saying 19s r preferred over 20s if you were to go on one... egh
and when i had 19s i had a harder time finding them than i do now with 20s
when i had 21s... pfft forget about it

I have 550i so It probably works out in the brake department. I know I want a set of authentic Alpina wheels but not sure whether to get 19 or 20, thus this post. I read that pre-LCI, B5 were equipped with 19s but post-LCI, B5 were equipped with 20s so I'd like to know whether to go with the pre or post LCI wheel set (my 550i is post-LCI but I like Alpina doesn't mean I'll follow everything they do
).

The performance of the 19s was slightly better IMHO, but my normal driving sees me in the city or the motorway (highway), so its not an issue. It just feels a little heavier and this set-up tram-lines a little due to the tyre sizes I presume. I do however LOVE how they look on the car

Due to the new price of the 20" Alpina wheels being 4500-5000 EUR with tyres, I went for a used refurbished set of E38 7er Alpina rims, bought second hand on Ebay for around 2500 EUR with tyres. I went for the following tyre and spacer combination:
Front: 9x20, 255/30/R20, ET20, 5mm spacers
Rear: 10x20, 285/25/R20, ET32, 10mm spacers
When it was recently loaded with luggage and 5 people, it rubbed at the rear when I pushed through a corner with a dip in the road, i.e. not a typical scenario. I have not yet pushed it along tight winding roads at speed with this set up, so it may rub then as well? That being said, there is no rubbing with normal driving and loads.
There is a slight compromise compared to the OEM 19" set up, which I expected, however I have always wanted these rims and love the look, so its absolutely worth it IMHO. Not sure what sizes the E60 Alpina B5-S 20" wheels are; they may have more suitable offsets and tyres sizes for the E60. You could send Alpina an email, asking them for the specs and prices, as they sell these via their website.

I'm trying to decide between 19 vs 20 for Alpina wheels. The B5 19s are 245/40 and 285/35 whereas B5 S 20s are 245/35 and 285/30. Do you have further comments comparing the two choices?
