I have manual and I love it.

Very sad that things I love are so far from here! E60 in Finland and wife in Budapest and me in China. But I have them both on my desktop.

Welcome Kenok,

Glad to hear you're enjoying your car

I've never driven a manual 530d and would love to try one. Sometimes I wish the MS mode on the steptronic could give the driver all the decisions on when to change gear!

I drove my brothers 320d manual the other day and liked it.

The grass is always greener eh.

All my work collegues told me I should get a manual for driving round the car park that is the M25 but I could'nt live with not being able to make my own descions about when to change gear. So much more fun driving a manual.

The way they have everything optional over in Europe, I wouldn't be surprised if the visibility package means you get a windshield and glass all around as well as headlights of some sort...

Don't tell me a windscreen comes as standard in the US?!

Is your E60 leased aswell ? If so, any idea how much of a premium you are paying on it over an auto.
I considered the 525d manual, but It was slightly more expensive, because of the diminished residual value over the lease period.
Must admit........I do miss the old stick shift!

In terms of getting the best performance, do you find yourself red lining it (ok - by that I mean keeping the revs up) all the time, as you would in a manual, or do you actually find yourself shifting gears quite a bit to keep the torque optimised in the narrow rev band.
Interested to know this, because there are so few manual diesel owners out there.
Congrats.

I was in a very similar position, changing from a 3 litre E46.

The diesel performance is awesome and much quicker than the 3 was, however like you I do miss the lovely growl of the straight 6 petrol.

However wouldn't change back now and love the E60.

Of course! There's a federal mandate that cars come equipped with a windshield -- it's part of a national campaign to keep down the mosquito population...

Of course the windshield is standard in the US....there must be something to act as a backstop for flying cups that come loose from the cupholders!! Besides which, without the windshield, it would be so noisy in the car that no one would be able to enjoy the squeaky window seals...
