I agree with your common sense, but here is a theory - and a theory only.

The tow hooks - which most cars have and I assume the BMW does - are used to pull the car along the assembly line - which is flat - If you try to tow the car with the hooks - and put it up at an angle, there is a chance that you could damage the front bumper or some other part - and it is always a bad idea to pull a car by something that was not meant to be pulled on

Thath makes sense to me - but still does not explain the Jaguar thing

hmmm but technicaly, using my common sense..... if any car is in neutral you can pull it or push it as much as you want.
I see no problem here. If in neutral everything is disconnected.
What is the difference if a car is being pulled on a flat bed or pulled already steep hill straight on to the truck???
When my V70 T5 Aut was towed, the tow truck driver told me that since it was equipped with automatic transmission it had to be on a flat bed. If it was rolled in N the oil in the gearbox could overheat. That's just what he told me..

50 litres of V power petrol in a 535D.
I just got back from work...

Today we had a total of 7 (seven!!!). One of them was a M5, who just did the opposite, V-Power Diesel instead of V-Power 100 octane petrol...
wow, I bet you were in heaven towing M5. Was it an E60 M5? What a jerk drives M5 and does not know what to tank in there
