sorry for steeling your other picture but I couldn't help it
No this was a couple of days earlier. We did manage 10 different countries in just over 2 days. I wonder if this is a record???

"Normal" now that is something I really would not want to be

But just consider how pleasant your exhaust smelled for that short run. Surely cleaned the pipes out.

This post just reminded me, do our 5's have to be towed on a flat bed regardless of xi or not?

50 litres of V power petrol in a 535D.
Travelled about 15 km until the engine misfired once, I immediately realised what had happened and stopped on the autobahn. Sunday morning with a ferry to catch Monday morning!! I had visions of being stuck for days or worse having caused serious damage. Contacted BMW assist and with typical German efficiency within an hour of phoning we had been towed to a BMW service centre. Here an engineer had opened up the workshop. The tank was drained and the car refuelled. It was then put on the computer to check everything was okay and within two and a half hours of stopping we were on our way. Excellent service. Whilst not denying being a complete idiot, the engineer did say that they deal on average with three or four similar incidents each week, particularly involving V power fuel. I wonder whether the response in the UK would have been similar. Oh well

I am glad it worked out so well. You said "whilst not denying being a complete idiot, the engineer did say that they deal on average with three or four similar incidents each week, particularly involving V power fuel." What made the engineer a complete idiot?
I was obviously not clear, I was referring to myself as the complete idiot. The engineer was a star
I see. It seemed like the engineer did OK, so I was confused. Thanks.
Yes, IMO. And, I think the manual says so too. Regardless, I would only have mine flatbedded.

Diesel pumps have "green" handles here in the USA as well.

Working on a tow truck myself... The answer is: YES! The E60 is a rear wheel drive. If you pull it you can damage it. It shouldn't happen, but it is possible. Therefore it has to be on a flat bed.

In the pic you can see that the tow truck driver has loaded the car on the flat bed, what is more work for him than just pulling it (since he has the device for pulling the car right there in the back of the truck).
