50 litres of V power petrol in a 535D.
Travelled about 15 km until the engine misfired once, I immediately realised what had happened and stopped on the autobahn. Sunday morning with a ferry to catch Monday morning!! I had visions of being stuck for days or worse having caused serious damage. Contacted BMW assist and with typical German efficiency within an hour of phoning we had been towed to a BMW service centre. Here an engineer had opened up the workshop. The tank was drained and the car refuelled. It was then put on the computer to check everything was okay and within two and a half hours of stopping we were on our way. Excellent service. Whilst not denying being a complete idiot, the engineer did say that they deal on average with three or four similar incidents each week, particularly involving V power fuel. I wonder whether the response in the UK would have been similar. Oh well

you are very lucky.

A couple of similar incidents reported on forums around the U.K. have resulted in insurance claims in excess of ?2k and/or BMW refusing to further warranty many parts of the car that have been damaged due to the mis-fuelling.

I know that BP have been taken to task here in the U.K. regarding their use of the coloured pumps that have contributed to the confusion, and they have been made to pay up in certain incidents.

Nevertheless, glad you have only suffered with perhaps dented pride/a few hours wasted

you are very very lucky. SErious damage could happen here..... well IMHO I would at least get the fuel filters exchanged....

I had a diesel loan car the other week, when I began to fill it up with diesel I noticed green ring on fuel cap on car, had me worried for a few moments. Why does UK diesel fuel cap have green on it when green usually means petrol??
