So this issue doesn't really have anything to do with the build date of our cars, as I have a 2004 530i and I did have the temp gauge and it was working until recently I had my software updated and then it stopped working. I first my dealership had no idea what was going on and then they got clarification from bmw Canada that bmw has decided to disable this feature so the gauge clusters are the same its just that the vehicle software is no longer programmed to have this function. So for anyone that gets a software update they will lose this feature. I bitched and complained about it for a while and all bmw canada could say was theres nothing they can do to bring it back.

not sure if the gauge cluster is the same in the 08's but from what I understand its not the cluster preventing it from working its the software.

You ebrake's on! Don't drive! And you've got 1/2 a tank..

You seem to be getting great mileage. And its 90 degrees?!?! WTH.. its that hot out in LA?
The +90 indicates the hotness of the driver.

Exactly, so when it goes down, you know the engine temp technically without having an actual number. So you can automatically assume that if it vanished completely your engine is overheating.
is this actually how it works? so when i start to see two, then one, then no slash marks i better pull over and let it cool down?
if this is true that would be awesome...one of the biggest gripes i have with the car is a lack of a real temp guage.
