Default One angel eye ring dimmer than the other.

Hey guys,

Last week I noticed that on the passenger side of my car (e60 LCI with halogens) one of the angle eye rings was a lot dimmer than the other one. It didn't bother me too much as I had an LED upgrade kit ordered and figured that the stock halogen bulb was just on the way out. However, I fitted the new LED kit today and the same ring is still a lot duller than the one beside it. Any ideas?

Cheers.

check that the clear plastic ring and associated light-transmitting clear plastic assy in/around headlight isn't broken - if so it oculd keep the light from making it to the second 'angel eye' on that side.
Also check the wiring - these headlights were mandated with biodegradable insulation on the wires, and I'd bet you have some exposed copper all over the place in the headlight assy.
I do, and honestly not sure how my headlight hasn't caught fire yet lol

Thanks for the reply. I removed the headlight earlier and inspected the plastic halo ring as best I could and couldn't seem to see any form of obstruction or damage. I'll check the wiring next. Is it the harness that plugs into the back of the headlight I should check?

yes, take the large caps off the back of the headlight, and look inside at the clear plastic running throughout that transmits light from the angel-eye bulb to the halo rings. Also the wiring all inside, on mine, had extremely degraded insulation and exposed copper - if it's touching/grounding somehow, that could cause issues - from dimness to fires.

I have a 2010 E60 535i and I noticed that with the halogens, the outer rings were dimmer than the inner… I did the LED conversion and it’s the same… but I’ve seen E60s that have four bright rings… anyone have a solution or is this just how they are?

thx

Its using one light for both rings. The inner one is brighter because that is where the light is installed. It has to travel to get to the outer ring. This is normal operation

If the right-side is the same, then it's by design. Mine are evenly illuminated but I have an older model.

Mine were pretty much the same (before and after installing cheap LED angel eye bulbs).
