If your driving the SAT whether its in a 550 or a 535.... you most likely spend the majority of your driving time in S1-S5 or M1-M6.

BUT how many of you, being used to knocking the stick forward and backward, have tapped it forward while in "D" mode and landed in neutral??

I remember one day I was driving at about 45mph and went to pass someone and just hit the stick forward to downshift and BOOM - Neutral at 5500 RPM. Think I got walked by a Kia Sportage or something...

On a side note, although I thoroughly enjoy M1-M6 (manual mode in sport), I must admit that S1-S5 in auto mode is a blast. The acceleration almost seems better and more aggressive in Auto Sport Mode than in M-Mode.

I can equate S1-S5 like 'SMG Lite'. It is scarily similar to D mode in an M5 but just not quite as jerky and with no need for throttle modulation.

The sport Automatic Transmission is a dream and its amazing how perfect BMW made this transmission. Its so fun and performance oriented and yet so civilized and even more silky smooth than a Lexus when in D mode.

I don't have SAT, but I always drive my auto in steptronic mode to avoid any issues like this. But not to say I haven't experienced the neutral downshift.

I rarely use the manual shifting mode... only when im in twistys and need to hold my gears.

Majority of the time you will see me cruising really slow in D mode.... once a week i might throw it into S mode and go a little crazy.

Dosen't take SAT to do this. I am a heavy user of Sport Manual in the older STEP. I have done the oops I'm in neutral a few times. Reason I would love HUD to have the gear info

I've thrown it into neutral many times by mistake on the SAT. Usually, it's just after I was driving for a while and stopped or used reverse for a minute and forgot to put it back into manual mode.

For me, I can say that I use M1-M6 (manual sport mode) 99.9% of the time. Coming off of an SMG, it's just natural for me to continue to use manual mode...
