My 530i is going to be 1 year old soon, but because the mileage is low, the service interval indicator doesn't say that an oil service is due for a long time. My last 530i (an E39) required an oil change at least once a year, but the service booklet on my present car is silent about the topic.

If mileage is low, is an oil change required at the one-year mark?

I have always heard the one-year or service indicator oil change. My dealer has done it for me at one year, without asking, simply saying you're due for and oil change when I was in for a nail in my tire...

It's a lease and I'm not going to keep the car, but I don't want to violate the contract by failing to have service done when its due. I know its free if it's required (here in the US), but it takes time to mess with.

My car displayed xxxx miles until oil service--until a year came around (the mileage had not been reached), then I-drive had a message that the service was due.

You get a free oil change after a year regardless of milage. Call your dealer.

ask your dealer.

some dealers will cover it when its been a year but the service indicator says you're ok, and then some dealers won't.

Low mileage annual oil change is covered under BMW maintenance. Its not up to the dealer. Go get it changed... its free.

Do your engine a favor and get an oil change at least once a year whether you plan to keep the car or not. You're right, it's free, but if spending an hour of your time on your car is an issue then I don't know....

Assuming you have a MY07, look in the Service and Warranty Information booklet on page 4. At the bottom of the left column it says in Note: Change oil at least once a year. So it is a requirement and the dealer has to do it - free of charge.

This has been covered many times but just to show you the REAL skinny this is the current SIB that still REQUIRES an oil change every year (note page 5 of 7) plus the old SIB that this one references.
