0w40 for summers
0w30 for winters
0w= reduced start-up friction = better mpg
5w40 for summers
5w30 for winters
would work just as well, oil must be fully synthetic ( no blends )
OEM is essentially rebranded castro synthetic. Mobil1 is another choice - its cost efficeint + for normal daily driving works just as well, Redline or royal purple ( racing apps )is good as the formulations provide for a higher resistance / protection to oil breaking down, but as you're in ireland, availability is unknown to me, but the oil grades should be the same.

Grey/Grey Budapest 18"
Lost to HPFP issues:
08 535i sport pkg
Lost to Dreaded E61 Sun roof leaks:
07 E61 530Xi
The full synthetic Euro Castrol , AKA the "Black Bottle" stuff.
Same stuff BMW uses/re-brands.
It's a bit more than Mobil 1 full synthetic, but it meets the oil recommendations set forth by BMW.
