Default OIL PRESSURE issue HELP! $3500 oil pump job suggested!

Hi, I recently bought "protect my car" extended warranty, they have paid for like half of my work done, its amazing. One thing after another is turning up though.

First I replaced my trans, some engine work, oil pan gasket.. etc.

Suddenly, low oil pressure light comes on, usually at traffic light stops, they attached a gage to my car when driving and the pressure on the gage indicates no issues. They don't know why this is occurring (BMW dealership mechanics) and are saying that its my oil pump. How could that be if the pressure is being maintained according to the gage? We already replaced the oil sensor. We are going to try 10W40 oil. see if that works. thoughts?????????? 190k miles on car.

A few months ago in my 04 545i, after filling up at a gas station I got a Oil Pressure Low warning on my iDrive Screen. I tuned the car off / on and it went away. Upon researching the issue and running it by my indy, we concluded the Oil Pressure switch was probably bad. We replaced it and the message never came back. I think the switch was less than $30. I would try this before spending over 3K.

I had the same issue and it was the Oil Pressure switch. Oil pumps rarely wear out, especially if oil changes are done religiously.

And low oil pressure isn't usually a bad pump, but excess clearance (wear) in the crankshaft bearings.
