So this morning I get in my car and start to drive. Oil level indicator tells me my oil is low and to add oil ASAP....So I do that. (I bought my car CPO and was maintained for oil 12k mls ago). So I add in a quart of oil and check my car info. It tells me my oil level is full and that I need to change my oil in 900 mls.
WTF...is this right? Or is my car burning oil or something like that. I've had it for about 3 months now.

I'm having my mechanic change out my oil tomorrow for a peace of mind and not going to bring it to the stealer cause they messed up my friends car also.

Any, any, any info will be greatly appreciated since this is my first BMW.

My dealer told me that it is normal to have to add a little oil every 5k miles or so. How true that is, I don't know, I have very little faith in dealers. I have learned much more about my car here than the dealer could ever tell me. (my dealer didn't even know the difference between pre-LCI and LCI cars)

Yes Check your engine oil level with the dipstick.

Yep. Mine gave me the whole talk about that they check it whenever it's in for maint and that if it doesn't fall withing their guildlines to change it, they won't. The idiot actually told me to drive my car up to the dealership...I was like "hello....my oil is low and you want me to risk driving it when I have no idea if I'm low on oil...just tell me what oil to put because i'm buying it now". They didn't like that too much.

Sounds like normal operation. You added oil and the low warning went away. Oil was changed 12,000 miles ago and you have 900 miles more, that makes it 12,900 miles to next oil change (as calculated). For peace of mind, just drain the oil and verify quantity, and fill with new oil, since you're due for an oil change anyway.

Got ya. I wasn't sure of the oil change interval. They told me every 15k miles.

How do I reset the oil change maint indicator? Is there a DIY on it?

The oil level is in iDrive, you just have to know where to look.

Run the engine for 3-5 minutes. You can do the following while driving, or parked on a level surface.

Push the iDrive wheel straight down.
Select "service"
Select "service requirements"
Select "engine oil level"

You will see one of the following messages-

"engine level O.K."
"No measured value available" (this means the computer is still checking the oil level)
"Add 1 quart"

I hope that this helps.
