I have used ATP once or twice on my E60 to see what it would do. Luckily it worked for me until I had time to fix my leak issues. You could be looking at a clogged pump. Unfortunately you're not going to be able to get it fixed without a flush and fresh oil. Liqui Moly 2037 Pro-Line Engine Flush is what I use and it works great. To condition your seals use Liqui Moly 2020 Motor Oil Saver.

Honestly I would add oil and see. The sensor would give an error but I'm not sure if the blue driver would see it since it would only be a message instead of a hard error (CEL).
For example my side indicator lights do not come up with an error on my regular OBD2 reader but when I hook up my $2k reader of INPA/ISTA I can see the error message indicating the lights are not there but they are and working correctly. I just have LEDs installed not drawing enough power.

So I have no dipstick. I have this problem with the electronic dipstick. How else can I reliably check oil level in the short term? Would it be ISTA? And how to get it....

You can definitely check if there's errors with ISTA or if the sensor is not bad check the level. If you have a laptop you can install it and get the cable for it. Either way you will have what you need in the future
Does it need to be any more complicated than this, You pored something in your engine that spoiled the sensor, change the oil and clean the sensor and fix the leak, if you have no means to do this then take it to someone who has. surely you aren't reliant on diagnostic equipment to come to this conclusion.

One thing to keep in mind is you need to remove the reinforcement plate to get at the oil level sensor and the 6 bolts are one-time-use TTY bolts, so buy new ones before you start. While the reinforcement plate is off, change the front differential gear oil and drain/fill plugs. While the oil level sensor is out, change its o-ring -- mine was weeping badly and I changed it recently.
