2006 525xi. Since the car registered 2000 miles (7000 presently), I have had the display "Low oil Message" appear after every month,or so, of driving. The 4 visits to the Dealer they had added oil, did a program update, replaced the oil sensor, and recently cleaned the sensor (moisture) and reinstalled it. Has anyone had this problem? Better yet, has anyone gone past this point where I am now and can offer suggestions or solutions I can discuss with the dealer? I like this car alot but this problem is getting long-in-the-tooth.

I have had this oil problem as well. I brought it in to replace the oil sensor and had an oil change done on Friday. The next day, the sensor came on again. Since then it has disappeared. This problem is very prevelant on e60 from what I am told. Hope it goes away for good. *Knock on wood*

I had the same warning almost 2 weeks ago when the car going to almost 2000 miles, then stopped by at the dealer and one of the available SA on that Saturday pretty sure it's the sensor 'cuz w/ such low milage it should not consumed that much oil and lead to the warning.

Past Friday the SA called as the replacement part arrived to schedule for a service appt. but it hasn't warn me anymore for sure for the past few days maybe three days before he called and the oil level shows all green, I'm pretty sure it'll do it again just not so sure if I should get it done as early as this Wed.

I have had this same problem since about 2000 miles. The Dealer has (1 & 2) drained the oil and found it had the correct amount, (3)changed the sensor, and recently (4) removed the sensor cleaned it and reinstalled it. These 4 trips to the dealer has not corrected the problem. I have 7000 miles on this car and I suspect the problem will come back in a month or so. I'm considering what my alternatives are if this happens again. This car should have been fixed by now. I don't like to take this car on trips of 100 miles or more because of this problem. Question: Has anyone gone past where I am with the Dealer and what can I expect?

Man a triditional dip stick would have saved some time and money here...
I will not buy another BMW without an oil dipstick!

2007 550i - Oil level low warning came on last week at about 4600 miles, disappeared, came on again. Was a bit surprised that the engine should burn oil that fast. Never had such an issue with other cars. Took it to the dealer yesterday to change the oil rather than addig a quart. When I got to the dealer, oil level indicator showed all okay. Dealer said that it is most likely the sensor and that this is a known problem. They said they just got a BMW service bulletin yesterday that in this case the oil should be changed, sensor checked and cleaned (under warranty). The found the sensor faulty, replaced it and changed the oil (they drained 9 quarts). Let's see how it works. At least it save me the $105 for the oil change that would not have been covered by the maintenance.
