I started this thread last month after receiving a low oil level warning. I added a quart of oil and the warning eventually (but not immediately) went away. Four hundred miles later, I received a low oil level warning again. The warning stayed on for three consecutive trips and then just went away. The oil level has remained normal (full) for the last four days. It seems to be a sensor problem. I'm taking the car in for service next week.

Why does everyone rely on the I-Drive for oil level, why not check with the dip-stick?
The 530 does not have a dip stick. I wish it had one in conjunction with the I-drive.

I couldn't find this thread last week when my car pulled the little "oil level warning trick". Glad to know I'm not crazy.

Its been quite good so far and there is less engine noise now and it feels much smoother than Mobil 1 gold
Cost is about $80us for 4L so itis about $140 for oil, $10 for oem oil filter and $20us for man hour
this is in HK

OEM is Castrol Syntec, normally 5w30 weight. There is a lot of discussion and personal preferences but any all synthetic i.e. Mobil 1 etc. will do the job.

2006 525xi. Since the car registered 2000 miles (7000 presently), I have had the display "Low oil Message" appear after every month,or so, of driving. The 4 visits to the Dealer they had added oil, did a program update, replaced the oil sensor, and recently cleaned the sensor (moisture) and reinstalled it. Has anyone had this problem? Better yet, has anyone gone past this point where I am now and can offer suggestions or solutions I can discuss with the dealer? I like this car alot but this problem is getting long-in-the-tooth.
