Same thing happened to me two weeks ago. I-drive said to add a quart of oil. I added it. Everything was ok after that.
Same problem with new 530 XI. It started when stoping at downhil redlight. Checked with I-drive always stated "oil level ok". Then I visited the repair shop at BMW, they said not to worry. Now it happens every day when I turn off the engine. I check with the I-drive and it is ok. Is it a gauge malfunctioning? This should not happen with this kind of car. :thumbsdown: :thumbsdown:

I've got a late 2003 530i with the M54 engine. In the past 10 months I've had the minimum oil light come on twice, each time my dealer confirmed that it needed a litre of oil. Seems quite strange and I don't over rev my engine that much. Never had this happen to be in my previous E46s with the same type of M54 engine. However the 325iSE did require a oil top up after about 5000 miles from new but that was the only time.

My Ride: 2006 550 SMG
There is a dipstick under the hood, I had an issue with my oil level sensor..took it to the dealer and they showed me the dipstick.

All other went dipstick-less, sucks IMO :thumbsdown:

Plus it is common that the new BMW engine consumes oil, I don't rev my engine during break-in but my 523i shows a minimum oil level at around 8000km.
I went back to the dealer and they say is quite normal as oil are needed during break-in to seal the engine
the situation is much worst on the M5 they say. One owner come in every-week to get a top up.
