Hello All:
I have a silly question. I have an 04 545i. I noticed in one of the Menus of the I Drive I can actually check the Oil Level. However whenever I try, it says something along the lines of "you cannot check the level at this time". I have tried it with the car running, with it turned off. Everytime I try to check I get the same message about it not being able to perfor the check at that time. Any ideas?

Have you tried checking it while driving? I've had success with that, but I have an '08.

Can anyone confirm whether this feature is active in an 04 545i? If not, why would I be able to see it in my I Drive?

But I can see it in my I Drive. I think it is under the Service Section under Car Data.

On my 04 545i there is no such feature. Perhaps you recently got a software update? It may have that option listed in the new software but it obviously does not work without the sensor.

I can only manually/visually check the dipstick located in the engine compartment.

That may be possible. It makes sense that is why it is not working for me. So is it confirmed no 04 has this functionality of checking the oil? The only way is via the dipstick?

I think we haven't it . But even in the previous Progman there was the men?, I have always seen it in the iDrive .
But it isn't a problem, because BMW engines usually don't consume oil .

The actual oil levels can be checked graphically on, I believe, starting MY06 cars. '04 and '05 cars with newer progmans display the "you cannot..." message.
