About a year ago I had parked my car outside in the sun and when I returned there was a streak where oil had run down the center of my rear bumper fascia from right below the middle of the license plate area all the way down the bumper fascia and then dripped to the ground. I thought some schmuck had poured something on my rear bumper, cleaned it off, polished it and went on my way. Well today I had the car parked outside again in the hot sun an came out and noticed the same oil trail down the rear bumper fascia...this was in a different city and couldn't have been a second person pouring oil down my bumper so I checked it out closer when I arrived home. Turns out the oil (yellowish/gold in color - felt about like a 30 weight oil) was actually coming out of the hole in the center of my trunk lid just under the rear edge near the license plate....this is confusing as there shouldn't be anything inside of the trunk lid that would leak oil? The way the trunk lid pivots there can't be hydrualics in there???
Anyone else ever have this issue...it's an 2008 535i thanks!!

it could be the rustproofing that bmw uses on the insides of the metal body panels. its kinda oil/waxy looking.
the heat probably liquified it a bit, and then it dripped out.
