Hi all of you, and Happy new year 2007 from Paris !
I just noticed oil leaking around the base of my left side rear window (06' E60 520d, manual rear shades). All windows are still working properly, and I just cant figure from where the leak is coming from; Any hints ? Back to dealer time ?

My bet is that the leak is coming from the sunshade that covers the small corner window of the door. Is it coming from the place where the small corner shade rolls up?

Actually, no; the leak comes from the inside were the large rear shades rolls down; Do you think this should bring me back to dealer ?
I can't think of what else it could be so unless someone else can chime in with an alternative view, I think your risk of doing any damage (aside from an interior stain) is minimal.

I had the same issue, it comes from the shade. I took it to the dealer and they just cleaned it up. Never had a problem with it again. Happy New Year to all...

The shade is my guess as well. BMW has had a lot of problems with rattling of these blinds and apply oil to cure it. Have you had you car serviced recently? Did you compain about shade rattling?

I had this on my 550i as well; it appears at the bottom of the small pillar separating the back window (where the small shade hooks). It leaked on both sides, not enough to do anything more than make me wonder what the devil it was.... Anyway, seemed to be worse in the heat here in the South, so must have been oil, when it warmed up it became more viscous and ran. Now that cooler weather has come around, it has stopped completely. Never was bad enough to inquire at the Dealership about it. Good luck.
