Have 04 545i with 50k CPO car. Just noticed today small oil leak under car in garage, should I be worried. Taking it to dealer on Monday, I think I have read that this might be a common fault either trans gasket or bottom tray.
Any thoughts advice would be appreciated.

Feel around the undersides of the valve covers all the way to the back when the car us cold. There is a lip that will catch oil. They should be dry, You may have to take off the plastic engine covers to get good access. The front upper timing covers also leaked on my car along with the gasket that mounts the block to alternator support bracket on the drivers side. If any of these are the cause, they are quite expensive at the dealer to repair >$2K. Usually independent shops can do them at about 1/2 the cost. The dealer fount the VCG and timing gaskets, my indy found the block leak.
Tell them to take down the engine splash covers to look when they do the inspection.
Good luck, please post what your findings are.

motor oil and trans oil are noticeably different. trans oil is much thicker and has a smell. gear oil is even more viscous. if you can put the car up on a ramp and have a look you might want to do so. you can quickly take the undercarriage cover off in the front of the car this will give you a better look. If your car has dynamic drive, check the CHF level as this may also have leaks.
