Somehow I was under the impresion that my 550 did not have an oil dipstick. But I was down a quart of oil after 6000 miles, and when I went to the dealership to get the oil topped off the technician actually checked the dipstick. His comment was that is nice to know for sure that what the computer is telling you is correct. I understand that the 6 cylinder models no longer have an oil dipstick.

I think is this one, some people have said its the transmission dipstick. I dont think so. on the 545 thats exactlly the same place where the oil dip stick is and both engines are the same. N62 The 550 is just an updated version of the 545s. N62TU.

Its easy... someone pull that black dip stick out and see what kind of oil is on the end of it. Is it engine oil or transmission oil? That shouldnt be too hard to tell. touch it.

That is correct. 6 cylinders dont have it anymore. Those engines are brand new and they didnt design it with a dip stick. At least not with one that a consumer can get to.

Now that I told you where the dip stick is in the engine in your 550 can you tell me where the dip stick is in the iDrive for my 545?

Well....I don't know about you....but in my 550, the dipstick for the Idrive is usually sitting in the driver's seat
