I got my oil changed at a regular shop (NOT BMW). I asked if the I-drive would reset after the oil was changed and he said it would. Its now telling me that I'm overdue for an oil change because it didnt...... Can this only be reset by BMW?

The Oil Service in iDrive will not reset on its own, but you can do it yourself manually. As already mentioned, you can find the steps on this forum...

As mentioned before reset is pretty simple, it's a sequence of pushing and holding the odometer reset button without starting the engine.

Did you go buy the oil yourself? I'd be surprised if your corner lube stop stocked the recommended Long Life oils.

I believe you push the start button without pressing the brake or engaging the clutch, depending on your transmission type. That's the way it works for my E90.

Your BMW should never be serviced at a "regular shop." My advice is to find a good independent BMW shop with factory trained technicians who know how to handle our cars. A regular shop who doesn't even know a simple thing such as the iDrive does not reset itself at oil change is bad news to me.
