So I went to the dealer the other day to get an oil filter and some oil so that I could change my oil. No big deal.

After looking at Daytona550's thread, it says I need 8.5 quarts of oil, I was only given 7 when I was at the dealer.
I just got off the phone with the parts dept at Palm Springs BMW and they said that there was 2 different engines for the e60 545i the N50 and the N52 and that depending on my vin number I could either need 7 quarts or 8.5.

For some reason this doesn't sound right to me....
Am I right in thinking I need another 2 quarts of oil, or could this guy at the dealer be correct?

I believe 6.8, we usually put it at 6.5 when doing oil changes for the inline6 engines
