All,
I have a 2006 530i and I just paid $130 to have the oil changed by an independent for Mobile 1 synthetic + filter change. How much do ya'll pay typically. Trusted BMW specialist and they suggest I change it b/w 5,000 miles and 7500 miles.....I just can't obey the 15,000 mile interval suggestion on iDrive and my mind can't be changed.

Thanks for your feedback,

Will

^ same as above. With the cost of oil and the filter, you are really only paying like $25-30 in labor. Plus you get the convience of a loaner car. Can't beat that.

Don't follow the iDrive. No matter what my driving conditions, it always says 15,000 miles which is BS. For city driving I would recommend 7,500 miles and highway 10 - 12,000. I pay $110 at the indy and $150 at the dealer.

This is an off topic reply:
I see lots of people state this with little to NO valid claim other than historic oil/car use or ginving into the 'fast oil lube' chains that use every 3k as their marketing slogan.
At 15k miles I captured a sample of oil from my 550 and send it in for analysis. The oil analysis lab said that given the oil type, age, miles driven, the oil could be used for an additional 5k miles. That's 20k miles between changes for me.

7,500 to 10,000 is good for folks who make lots of short trips.

As far as cost... you can DIY oil change for around $80.

About $80 or so at the dealer. I get to use my BMW CCA discount. It is actually cheaper to change oil in my BMW then it was to use synthetic in my Pontiac Grand Prix (might be due to the extra 0.8 l of displacement).

DIY over here. Spend about $70 to $80 just on oil alone, the 545 takes 8.5 quarts!
