i went to dealership and saw a sign : $89 special for oil/filter change. I asked if they could do my v8 for that price, they said yes.

Does any body know if they use synthetic oil there? Price seems like too good to be true

Since the average price of full synthetic is about $7 - $8 a quart and these cars take 7 quarts plus oil filter I would say this BMW dealership is offering a very good deal.

It's about 60 to do youself with the oil and filter from the dealer. It's a good deal, but it's also a way for them to get you in and check if anything else is recommended to be replaced..

+1 ... their price for an oil & filter "change" is in line with most honest BMW shops. The best will let you know if they find issues you should know about and give you a fair and honest service or repair recommendation .

It's when they upsell you with unnecessary services that the shysters make their money.

That's a good deal. It's roughly what I paid for an oil/filter change with synthetic at the dealer with my e46 a couple of years ago. I priced it out and the $25-$30 savings to do it myself just wasn't worth the hassle. I don't think you need to be suspicious of a BMW dealer not using approved oil. It's a promotion to get you in--take advantage.

the V8s take 8.5 quarts, so it's even better.
