I know I've seen a post on this some time earlier, so if someone can send that thread that would be cool, but I am currently in the break in period and when I picked up the car I asked them about changing the oil after 1200 miles and they said no, due to the new technology in engine building there are no metal shaving and such, but I find that hard to beleive and was just wondering what I should do, and if I am to change it, I was going to do it myself, any suggestions on if I should do this, or follow on what the dealership advised?

I was in the same position as you 2 weeks ago... all opinions and professionals said no, so no oil change after break in..

I came from a past of high-rev motors, bikes etc. and an oil-change after break in was a must, but things have changed.. apparently this engine doesn't need and it even not recommended as far as I understand to change the oil after break-in.

Thanks for the help, I just don't know what to trust all the time from the dealer, so I appreciate your help, and ill just change it on the regular schedule.

Lots of opinions on this one (also whether you should follow the recommended break in procedure, which I always do).

I've always had the oil & filter changed after break in (just did it at 3,000 miles). I have to believe that as the engine parts break in there will be gunk in the oil (and filter) that would be good to get rid of. I also always changed the oil & filter twice as often as recommended (3,000 miles before synthetics, 7,500 miles now). Small price to pay to keep the internal engine parts clean, which can't be a bad thing.

It's has nothing todo about how big or small the price is, I've been told that in this sophisticated system, premature oil changes are not recommended...

But who really knows ?

It's so confusing, I don't know what to do, because I'm fussy with all my machines about changing oil and maintaining them, I just don't want to change it for the sake of it, if I know that it's serving no purpose ya know

I also had the deale cahnged my oil and filter at 2500 miles, disregarding the dealers recommednation. I look at it this way, when the warranty is out and something goes wrong...If Id didn't change the oil at first...it's the "What if??? scenario"...I like playing it safe. Just my thought...do what your guts tell ya.

I do changes the filter every 5000 but the oil at 10000 mile. Filters can easily be done at home without having to reset the system
