My Ride: My ex-ride: EU '08 LCI 520dA. Space Grey, Sport Seats in Black Leather/Fabric Anthracite, Sport Steering Wheel, A/C with Extended Features, Hi-Fi Speakers, Cup Holders, Cruise with Braking function, Folding Rear Seats, Xenons, Park Distance Control.
A oil change at the dealers costs 300 Euros over here.
They change the oil (only 4 liters in a 520d) and the filter,
and both the fresh air filters and resets the iDrive.
I need to pay, even if the car is still under a two year garantee.

You don't have to get oil changed at the dealer its a simple procedure which can be carried out be a reputable Mechanic. Considering your out of warranty. I would just ensure if you are currently running synthetic oil that it reamins the same and good filters are being used. changing oil is not rocket science but a reputable Mechanic is the key.
Keep in mind synthetic oil changes are more expensive than regular oil. Def. not $20

^^^+1 DO NOT GET A $20 oil change!!! They will use the cheapest crap they have and you will have a much bigger bill later. Do ti yourself with quality FULL synthetic (Mobil 1, Castrol, or BMW dealer - also Castrol). Make sure the filter is good quality and you should be good to go.

There are two things you can do.
1. do it yourself. There are so good articles on the site
2. Find a good independent BMW mechanic. You may save some change there.
For my 545i it cost me about $90 to do it myself and my time.

Be wary of cheap oil change joints. They may:
1. Not use proper parts, like a new crush washer on the plug.
2. Over tighten the plug and strip the threads, forcing you to install a new pan. (Not cheap.)

My Ride: I have an 05 545i. It's a manual with a few options. This is my first BMW but I don't know how I'll ever be able to switch to something else.

3. Not even drain the oil from the drain pan, they might just suck it out through the dipstick. This won't remove all the old oil, very unprofessional to me
4. Not even do it all and just tell you they did!
