My brand new 535, with only 7K miles, died today right in the middle of 4 lane rush hour traffic! No power and wouldn't move. "Engine Malfunction - Reduced Power". Engine died whenever I tried to pull out of the way. Finally got to a shoulder, and get this... I waited over two hours for a tow truck! Road Side Assist didn't book a tow in my town, they booked one in a town over an hour away! Is at dealer now - service says it's likely the fuel pump.
Is this a major repair? Should I be worried that they'll screw something else up fixing it?
A word to BMW - recall all fuel pumps on the X35 engines and quit screwing your customers!

AH IC... well a quick mention of 135 and 335 would have helped. Instead it sounded like the problem experienced here warranted a massive recall.

On a N54 motor, when was your car's production date ( look on driver side door jam )? The HPFP seems to be the cause of a lot of problems... a big rash of them recently with the cold weather too. I had mine go there were a total of 8 other n54 motored cars that came in that morning with the same issue ( I'm in a Smaller market Birmingham AL) 4 E60's, 3 E9x, and a X6...
BMW is on the gen 4 HPFP now... Stay away from discounted gas due to high ethanol content. That seems to be the thing that kills them very quick ( Ethanol content over 10%)
