I finally passed the break-in point today and was very impressed by the 550's full capabilities. This car really takes off, sport mode, DSC off, and just floor it. All I have to say is 
The other day I also had the pleasure of riding in an M5. The owner is from Las Vegas and he is one of the funniest guys I have ever met. Wheelpower had just completed work on his car, Hamann headers and sports cats, with an Eisenmann exhaust.
It is the most brutally obnoxious car I have ever been in. When he slammed the throttle it felt like god throwing me back into the seat and I could not move out of it. Here is a video link I recorded from the backseat on the way to dinner. Bad quality and I could not keep the camera still, sorry. Also a side by side picture next to my 550i

I occassional visit Club Lexus (CL) and see a few "I beat a M3" posting splattered here and there. The latest is a IS350 owner that got discredited when the M3 owner that he supposedly beat in a race started posting on CL. The OP has been silent for awhile. I will give credit to most of the IS350 owners though b/c they realize with a competent driver the stock M3 will always beat a stock IS350.
Now, let's get back to the subject of 545i vs IS350. After I beat your a$$ you can post on CL how I beat you.
Or if you beat me, I'll do the same here. 
We'll have to set something up for the end of the month.

LOL. CL's ok... most are ok... but thre are more bad apples in the population than there are here... *shrugs*
AS for the IS beating the M3. Car wise I dont think so. Its the Driver like you said. But because of the power I guess any mistake on the M3 drivers part will cost him his race. Prob be the same for us.
