Hey ZNOD, God it took me about an hour to read through this thread.. and near the end I was more or less speed skimming.

I'm a 20yr auto enthusaist and drag racer at the track in Epping NH. I've only read about these performance testers and have always loved the excitement of the racing community at the track so I never purchased one... Though you've now got me thinking about getting one.. I love your choices of vehicles, I think they are more or less what I hope to attain as I get a little older (35 now). They are the perfect trio for all occasions. Anyhow, I didn't read anywhere that you've taken your Z06 or 545 to the 1/4 drag strip to compare numbers with the gizmos. Have you had that opportunity? I've got about a 6-8 week wait for my 550i on order still so I'm reading everything here to get ready. This will be my first Bimmer so I'm a BimmVirgin. And my two cents for those who think that you're driving is reckless or irresponsible, they need to realize that if you're not putting anyone but yourself in danger they should probably find something better to do with their time. I'm not trying to offend anyone here but I'm sure that these people don't exactly live an angelic life themselves..

Keep on Redlining,
Steve
Welcome aboard Steve.I have had my 545 to the drag strip with the Passport GT2 also connected. The largest diff was .04 seconds at 330'.The 1/4 time was only .01 diff and the speed for the GT2 was .3 mph high.Looking forward to some real times for your 550 when you get it.Znod and I have been testing for quite a while with very good results.

Welcome wavehogger, and congratulations on ordering your 550i. It's great that you will joining us in doing some testing. I have taken neither of my cars to the strip, although, at this point, I am thinking of taking the 545i. The Z06 generates too much power and seeminly hardship on car parts to run it hard over and over--not that it wouldn't take it. I would just feel bad doing so. Be sure and see this thread.. It contains a great deal of info too. If you want to comment, add info, or ask questions on the thread, then please do so. It could use an occassional bump and some interest.

Best,

Znod.

Got some runs in today after my Trinidad Reunion.
All launches in STEP (M1), DSC off, Step on brake and depress throttle all the way to floor and release, then press to floor again. Would max out at either 1100 or 1500 RPM. Foot off brake and go. I was pleased to say the least. I felt like a much better launch hookup and stayed stronger thru the gears.

I ran one run for calibration. Then these two. Tried to do a run or two with wheel spin with by slowly depressing throttle to build up revs (can get pretty high this way). Got plenty of wheel spin, but aborted those when I saw some bird watchers in the bushes on cell phones I do this in a wildlife preserve so there are few humans - usually.

Moved my weight up to 4150 as I thought I was getting too low a reading on HP.

Wind steady from North = 15 MPH

NICE! a 645 does it in under 5 also! or err close to 5 on the second run. Anyone post data on a 550 yet? or a 650?

I updated all of our data to 4/10/06 on the "other" thread. I used 100% weather for all. grogan545 takes the biggest hit when switching from 25% (sorry g-man). I pick up a few hundredths on average. Some of my results look better, while others look worse. But, g-man has super unadjusted data--so not to worry I think. For now, I think its better if we all do the whole adjustment until it become clear that so doing over adjusts for a given car--given its ability to compensate for weather. Right now it looks to me like my car isn't doing a great job of compensating for weather differences at least some of the time.

Znod, I noticed in the data u added for my 545 "wannabe" that u only included my 1/4 mile info, while most others u were including all the figures provided. Just curious if there was a reason. I know I did not provide all the 0-10, 0-20, times etc, but I do have them if you think they add substance to the body of data collected.

I think that I have been over reporting. I have started to simplify the reporting. I recorded much of the data much earlier and am having a little time-problem in keeping up with everything--here and elsewhere.

Just let me know which 4 or 5 pieces of unadjusted data you would like to have reported and post a table here summarizing the data. If you post a table in the form you like, then I can paste it into the other thread and not have so much work to do. Posting unadjusted data is no problem from a table--except that it is such a pain to keep the columns lined up reasonably well.

I suggest reporting unadjusted data that mean something to the average reader--e.g., 1/4 mile results, 1/8 mile results, 0 to 60's, and 0 to 100's. Zero to 100's are nice because that correspond closely to 0 to 160 kph. I posted metric results for my car because RicRacing had ask for some metiric data and to facilatate some comparisons for Europeans, etc.

Reporting adjusted data for others is much more of a problem--except for 1/4 mile data. I can report my adjusted data, other than those for the 1/4, because I have made so many passes that I can use regression analysis to make very reasonable estimates of the values I can't get using SMOKEmUP. When it comes to adjusted data, I can report a reasonable estimate of grogan545's 0 to 60 using a non-regression approach that works well on my car. But, I have no idea how well it would work on a 645ci. Implicit in what I am saying is that one can't use the SMOKEmUP calculators to get reliable adjusted data for anything other than 1/4 mile results.

I am glad that you are having fun doing measurements. I find it to be somewhat addictive. I get up in the middle of the night to make my passes. Hope you didn't mind being called a wannable 545i. I thought the idea was sort of funny. Let me know if you want me to change the reference. Also, if you have any 645i test results, similar to those that I posted up front on post #1 of the other thread, then I also could post them for purposes of comparison.

Don't worry about the "wannabe" it's fitting for the board we on The additional unadjusted data for those cooresponding runs is as follows:

.........................E to W......................W to E........................Avg

0-60 MPH...........4.895s.....................5.050s... ...................4.973s
0-100 MPH..........10.674s....................11.692s... .................11.183s

SUNOCO 93 octane

BTW I'm sure you saw my response to sapkan on the 535d vs 545i thread and specifically his comments on his view of the 6er vs 535d. I say this for reason of including a lot more detail of my various 0-xx speeds in my response, avgs and worst case of my most recent four runs (just cause that's how many fit in the PASS software). If I took the time I'm sure I could recreat everything in Excel and show many more at one time. In fact that is a rainey day project I have in mind. Don't know if I want to do this before or after Sharkfest 2006 in Spartanburg, May 18-21, or not. Afraid if I do I might just lay it in on some 635Csi guy and get my head handed to me on a stake

I'll post your results soon. I sort of saw what was going on, but I didn't quite get it. I'll look back. I saw your reply, but was somehow confused. You should do great in your car against all but some M-Cars.
