AH BAH! use whatever you want to use. I got some corn oil from my local market anyone want to buy some at $1 a gallon? Will work fine in your E60.?

Don't laugh. The politicians in WDC are trying to get us to use a mix of corn and gas in our cars! The cornbelt vote, you know

for the week, ended up at 17mpg. (slightly below what i normally get at 18mpg)
of course, its hard not to floor it when you know how fast you are accelorating and everything to the left and right of your center vision gets really blurry
I ended up a few times this week over 100 mph! (without even trying)
its just too easy with the higher octane gas.

[i''m impressed, i just cant afford $5/gallon fillups for 100 octane (US)]

[quote name='rlinger' date='Sep 22 2005, 08:17 PM']well, i put in half a tank of 100 octane today at the pasadena gas station.
acceleration is much faster with the high-octane gas. (it is noticeably faster revving to the redline)

however, after doing fast starts off redlights driving home, i backed off and reset my mpg computer.? i only got 14 mpg (mile per gallon for our international readers) going home on side streets.
I normally am about 18 mpg in stop and go traffic.? (the i-210 was too slow today to take home from pasadena)

I will find out tomorrow if the trend continues tomorrow with lower MPG.
I am not sure if I really am burning lots more gas since it is high-octane or the engine/computer just learned the behavior from earlier fast starts from the red-lights.?? more to come.....

Cool not exactlly proof but higher octane does "make the car go faster." You usually get 18 mpg on city driving? ARE YOU SERIOUS??? WOW that sounds high... but reguardless Clear your MPG tomorrow morning and drive it normally and see if you can monitor it and see what mpg you get. Hoping you can control that right foot.

BTW how much was the 100 octane?

My answer is not even listed on the poll. It is, "I use the minimum octane that meets the manufacturer's recommendation." In my area of the US, that is either 92 or 93 octane [(R+M)/2]. Although the sales person at the dealership told me the car would run just fine on mid-grade (89 octane here, typically). I do not use 94, 95, or 96 octane, even though these are available at some locations, because it would be a waste of money.

Did anyone watch the latest 5th gear episode? aired Nov 11th, 2005. It tested it with Regular Unleded cheapie brand Gasoline, BP Ultimate and Shell Optimax for performace between 3 cars... a the new Clio, Golf GTi, and Subaru WRX and sure enough Shell Optimax gave the most HP and TQ out of the Golf and WRX... the Clio got 87bhp out of all 3 gasoline...
