does everyone waste money on 93/94 (depending where you go) or is it just me? i hear that high octane gas is not as important as you might think. any comments?

check search function, discussed to death... if you dont use premium gas, dont drive a bmw. But serioslly, if you do use lower octane gas, it will just cause poor performance, engine knock, perhaps increased emmissions warnings and maybe a boat load of future problems. Spend the extra $5

It's worth it. You get better throttle response plus smooth sailing (driving ) like tbal said, it won't mess with emission warnings, and all that good stuff.

you dont save that much money. Why did u buy a BMW if u dont want to fill it up with premium. The drop in gas milage from using regular probably negates your savings. Try a few tanks of premium and really hand calculate your MPG. If you still think premium is a waste of money fine use regular its your car. I hope its not a lease cuz people like you who dont put in recommend fuel kills the car for the next owner.

I live in San Jose, CA and "Premium" gas around here is 91 which I always use, preferably from Chevron. I heard there are a few gas stations with a 93/94 pump in the South Bay, but I've never tried.

What your usually hearing or reading in most cases is referring to using Premium gas in autos that don't require it.

We are lucky to have 96 octane abundantly available. Chevron/Caltex over here offers up to 95 octane as their best. I use the 96 octane and I can really feel the difference from 91 octane...smoother, responsive.

Thanks

You should drive over to Long Island and go to USA Gas in Malvern. They sell the following:
  • 100 Octane - Pump
  • 110 Octane - Pump
  • 116 Octane - Sold in canisters, behind the counter
