Default Occasional loss of power 535D

All,

My car occasionally loses power around 1100-1400 rpm. Decreasing throttle and shift into DS seems to resolve the issue. It happens completely at random. Sometimes oncee a week sometimes once a month.

When this happens the engine squirts relatively large amounts of oil from the rubber valve gasket. And further runs fine for thousands of kms.

I already replaced:
- All turbo valve rubbers and gaskets
- Air inlet rubbers
- Vacuum hoses
- Oil breather

Car is running latest software.
Car doesn't fire up any error codes.

Dpf is off and car has been running fine for a year now. Once it's done with it's hickup there is absolutely nothing wrong with the car and no power loss whatsoever.

Air inlet manifold and egr are clean but the car has a high milage.

I would blame it on a turbo malfunction but the oil leakage under the valve gasket makes me second guess.

Any help would be appreciated.

My first thoughts are swirl flaps malfunctioning or pressure converter not activating turbo. The low RPM loss of power points to the small turbo going off line.

The oil from the valve gasket is a mystery. Are you sure the oil is from the valve cover gasket or could it be from the inlet manifold port gaskets?. These get hard and start to leak eventually. I suppose it is possible that they could leak enough to cause boost pressure to drop?. If they leaked that badly they would be spitting out a fair bit of oil for sure.

Hi Redtwin,

Thanks for your help. The swirl flaps are already removed. So it couldbe the pressure converter but that doesn't explain the oil leakage when the power drop occurs. You can actually smell the hot oil exactly at that moment only.

If it is just the oil gasket that causes the leakage, why isn't it continuous?

So I'm thinking what valve isn't opening that causes abnormal pressure inside the engine.
