you're looking at it... internet has everything you will find in any car magazine EVER written EVER. and you are only a .08 second google search away from reading it. and they dont have to cut down trees to make it, and you dont have to spend cotton to get it.
This is a very valid point. There is no question that the internet is a vastly superior resource than any magazine. I guess sometimes it's nice to feel like I'm living back in the "olden days" and sit outside with a magazine and an iced tea on a nice summer day.

Hey, what "olden days" are you talking about - I still do that!!! Did that last night, came home from the gym, went to the back yard with a big glass of water and was reading a book before I went off to bed - and I'm only 35

For me it was making fun of NKOTB and their fans. Then again I have had a distaste for "boy bands" or anything of that nature anyway. I love old Motown - gimme some Temptations, or Smokey and I am relaxed

I quit reading Bimmer several years ago for somewhat similar reasons. The cover always touted the newest BMW--like the e60 when I was reading four or five years ago. Inside, however, the majority of the advertisements were for 3-series tuner mods, big wheels and tires, spoilers, etc. About three out of five questions involved an e36 or e46 tuner guy wanting to know if "X" brand of 20" wheels would fit on his car. Then, the old curmudgeon mechanic would bitch endlessly about how "current" BMW owners were too inept to work on their own cars. He then would proceed to spend three pages explaining how to change some obscure transmission part on an E12, which probably was useful for about .01% of the readers. Talk about an identity crisis.

Thumbs down

I personally love the Roundel! But like absolutely anything else in this world, I am SELECTIVE as to what I actually read in it! I suppose though, if you are trying to find a reason to dislike anything, you WILL come up with a reason! There is a ton of information available in the magazine, but it must also be tailored to BMW members who may own cars that are older (much) than our E60's, so they need to try to be all things to all people....not an easy or enviable task, but they have information on nearly every BMW made, so keep that in mind when you are badmouthing a very worthy publication and it's readers .

I guess that's the problem. When you try to cater to too many audiences you end up cutting out a large portion of every audience that is not interested in irrelevant information (to that reader). So it turns out that 85% (or whatever the percentage may be) of the magazine is worthless to that reader. Specialization is important and a lot of businesses realize that their product is improved by better serving a smaller audience as opposed to providing unwanted info to a wider audience.

I haven't installed a computer in the bathroom. I need these magazines so I have something to read on the throne! I guess I could take my blackberry in there, but I'd rather have the mag.

On another note, not to start debate on the dipstick, I know how to check the oil level in the iDrive, but I want a dipstick because I don't trust computers and sensors alone. They're great when they are working perfectly, but with something as critical as oil level, I want the ability to "see for myself".

By bitching about Roundel, you have inadvertantly turned into a whiner as well.
