I quit reading Roundel when J. Spira started his writing sabbatical for them, but tonight, I was bored and going through the mail noticed the August copy. Tempted to throw it away, I ended up reading it from cover to cover. A couplke of things jumped out at me that I felt compelled to jot down.

* - I think they should change the name of the magazine from Roundel to the BMW Whiner's Union. I was taken aback at how many letters to Satch contained anti BMW sentiments.
* - It seems that Run Flats are even more unpopular in the Roundel ranks than on this board.
* - There is a picture of Porsche some dude bought after he got tired of his M3 and found the "Homogenizaion" of the BMW designs, ie Chris Bangle to be offensive. So he bought a Porsche Cayman. Wow, talk about homogenization, *- I have owned a dozen Porsches in my life, and I would defy anyone to stand in front of a Boxter, Cayman, or a 911 and be abler to tell the difference
* - Some dude was seriously cranked that his new X3 did not have a dipstick, and wanted to refuse taking delivery of it. He rants in the article about that dipstick like it was the one critical item that held the motor together. I guess fail to see the enormity of having no dipstick. One of these days I am going to open up the hood of my 550 and look around for it. If I have one, great, if not, well 26k on the odometer and I have never seen the need to check the oil.

Perhaps it was just a bad month, and everyone wrote in to bitch. But it annoyed me, and maybe I wont read it again for another 6 months or so.

Just thought I would share.

By bitching about Roundel, you have inadvertantly turned into a whiner as well.

Yes, your 550i has a dipstick....back towards the windshield, in the middle.

bitching about a dipstick is something an 80 year old man would do. one that couldnt figure out how to use the "gosh darned do-hickey" on the dashboard.

which goes back to my roundel is big with the "old folks"

I have never seen the mag. Only heard what people say about it here and have glanced at the website, but that is the same impression that I got. Is there a BMW-specific magazine that is geared more towards a younger crowd?

I read roundel and get the same impression. I always look at the classifieds in Roundel because I know the M3's listed there weren't abused because they were driven by older people.

hey I read Roundel and I am perfectly comfortable with my "do-hickey" - what I don't bother with are the letters, because (like most magazines) it is usually a bitch session.
The only thing I agree with Craig about is that the features and stories, basically the feel of Roundel seems geared more toward the older, crotchety, country club set.

you're looking at it... internet has everything you will find in any car magazine EVER written EVER. and you are only a .08 second google search away from reading it. and they dont have to cut down trees to make it, and you dont have to spend cotton to get it.
