Well since you will still have to buy a good cable not a cheap POS Chinese one (sorry i'm still upset about that issue) and considering that you could have some setup issues I wouldn't do that. When you look at time spent vs. cost it doesn't pan out

True but you'll have to configure them all and hope that they're complete. Which most are not.

And this is the response from them, what you think:
Hi,

Thank you for your email.

You can do these things, either using SSS Progman V32 or NCS Expert, both of which are included in the two DIS / SSS based packages on our website. Bare in mind that these are quite in-depth & comprehensive dealer programming procedures, and as such there is a learning curve associated with carrying out these tasks. It isn't just a case of ticking option boxes.

You will also need to find out exactly what diagnostic platform (sockets) your vehicle uses. 2006 saw the introduction and slow roll out of the OPPS based fibre optic interfaces into BMW's. If your vehicle has two diagnostic sockets fitted, consisting of a standard retangular shaped 16 pin socket and a fibre optic style port, then you will need an OPPS interface multiplexer, to enable programming of functions such as DRL's, path lights etc via the optical port.

However if your vehicle only has one interface fitted, namely the standard rectangular 16 pin socket, then you will be able to carry out all of the functions by using a "D-Can" interface.

It is vital that you find out whether your vehicle has the OPPS port fitted, as you will not be able to carry out these types of functions and programming without the fibre optic interface which is required to connect to the system, unfortunately the OPPS system, (if fitted) is also extremely expensive to purchase due to the technology involved.

So just to be clear on the interfaces.......

If your vehicle has two interfaces - a rectangular 16 pin one, and a fibre optic port - then you will be able to run basic diagnostics using the 16 pin port and a D-Can interface, but you will also need an 'OPPS' Optical interface to carry out any programming or coding

If your vehicle only has one interface, namely the standard 16 pin rectangular style then you can carry out both diagnostics and programming using the D-Can interface lead. No OPPS interface will be required.

Unfortunately, there is no way of finding out which type of interface is fitted, other than actually doing a visual check. However I do suspect that if your vehicle has a fibre based 'MOST' connection for Audio device connection, then it probably also has the same fibre system present for diagnostics.

Unfortunately, we do not sell either of the interface leads, as it would make worldwide delivery extremely expensive. However, If required we can recommend suitable vendors of interfaces, depending on the type(s) fitted to your vehicle.

In relation to delivery. We normally offer a free airmail service to all worldwide locations. Unfortunately, we experienced an extremely high number of of delayed and lost packages to Canadian addresses during late 2011, to the point where we will now recommend using a tracked service, such as DHL or Fed Ex. I am still more than happy to send any order out to these locations using the free standard Airmail post, however in doing so would be entirely at the buyers' risk, and beyond us providing a proof of shipping from the UK Royal Mail, we would not accept any responsibility should the item be delayed or lost when using this service.

Alternativey, we can offer an Economy Fed Ex service to Toronto, on a 3 - 5 working day service with tracking and insurance for an extra GBP £22.20. This would be raised as a seperate paypal charge, once the carrier had been booked.

I hope that this has answered your questions. Please contact me, should you require any further information

I have all of this and other software for the Audi and Porsche. As far my experience...I was using a Chinese cable that I got for less. I looked at my iphone and thought "how bad of quality can it be" then i got a non-working item. They made up for it and sent me another which worked but seemed to be intermittent. After playing around with drivers the damn thing wouldn't respond to my USB port AT ALL. So I got another and that was good. Until I used WINKFP to flash my DME and noticed it took a little too long. Realized the cable wasn't responding. Now, I'm familair that some older cars did not allow fast baudrates so I didn't chose that option naturally. So I screwed up the ECU. I bought a replacement. Then I bought an original cable and some reputable software from same source and BAM! i was able to flash the old ECU. Because I have a friend at the parts counter I got lucky and he allowed me to return it. I love you Mike. If you're getting a good cable that company will warranty the cable. Original cable will come from Europe or U.S. partner and will cost no less than $80 for just the cable. I have seen them go for $200 but that is with a nice profit margin of course. My original cable does about 60 megabytes per second. So updating all modules in my car took a little over an hour. I know a few people their car took 3 hours but it also depends on the laptop. I have a really good laptop.

Unless you have a 2008 you do not need a D-CAN cable! But just be aware that without a cable that give high baudrate you spend a lot of time on the car and time is money. And your car is your car.

And BTW, this is incorrect. You do not need the MOST to do DRLs. YOu can activate them in the CKM settings on Progman. Sheesh

CKM is Car Key Memory. DRL is Daytme Running Lights.
While I agree with Bruce, I also disagree to the point that if you need to get your software to work properly instead of spending countless hours editing files etc etc and learning to be able to use it according to BMW specs.

Going off the notion that time is money then it's totally worth it to pay someone sometime. I mean I know everyone is different. I am a very handy person. I'm able to build houses pull and drop engines/trannies you name it and I can work algorithms but sometimes even I do not like to be bothered with something because I don't have the time. If I have to look at spending time with a client who is paying $200 an hour or if I have to drop car off at with someone else that can deal with it then it's worth it.
Last year I installed a new 5 ton HVAC in my house and bought some Yellow Jacket gauges and everything and just never found time to make sure the system was optimized. Maybe this year will be different.
