I borrowed an OBD-II diagnostic adapter and software from a friend in an effort to avoid yet another wasteful trip to the dealer. The "Service Engine Soon" light mysteriously came on two days after they "upgraded" my car to CIP 27.2. Funny how these things "just happen" after a visit to the dealer...

Anyway, I plugged my car in and immediately had all sorts of information - throttle percentage, temps, voltages, O2 sensor details, and etcetera. I polled the car for trouble codes, decided if they were "real" problems they would come back as they are supposed to do, so I cleared them. The trouble code was for "lean at idle". I've put about 40 miles on since clearing it and all is well, and the trouble message has not come back so far.

I have to say, if you know a little bit about what you're doing, these things can be very handy. Now I just wish someone would put out an affordable MOST interface so we can access the other details of the car (e.g. iDrive, etc).
