I've now done some 5000 miles in my 520d Touring and found that the fuel consumption re the computer reads on average 40mpg but by brimming the tank and calculating the mileage i know i'm getting 44-45mpg.
Does anyone know if the computer can be re-calibrated. Took the car to my local dealers (Lind in Ipswich) and they agreed that the computer can be out but didn't want to do anything about it.

I only know the name Lind because of everyone on BMWland nominating them as possibly the worst BMW dealer this side of the milky way. Try another dealer.

Yes you can adjust it in the hidden menu in the instrument cluster. But I cant find the thread on how to do that right now the search engine isnt the greatest...

If you change the value in register 20 of the hidden menu, you can adjust the MPG reading. The defalut is 1.000. It is a fractional correction. Since you want to increase the reading by 10%, change the value to 0.900 and the next tank will read 10% higher than the last one. If one wanted to decrease the reading, adjust the number above 1.000. On my car, I wanted to lower the reading by 3% (about 1mpg) and I used the value 1.030.

I have also measured my car, and I see that after 2200 km, I've used 10,3 liter/100km while the computer says 10,9l/100km.
My conlcusion so far has been that the journey computer gives an error of approximately 6%. However I've refueled on the same gas station each time, so I guess there is a little possibility that the flow controller at the gas station is off with 6%, but i really doubt that (I guess a 6% loss would be corrected by the gas station in a matter of days)
Anyway, should not the dealer correct the fuel consumption readings as a warranty, or at least as a service gesture?

Yep i've done some asking around today and your comment seems to be the norm. The car is a lease car and although i can nominate a suplying dealer i just let the lease co source from where they wanted due to the Lind sales guys just not being interested when i called in.
I'll be looking for another dealer close to work for future servicing. Lind have had their chance and blown it

Check first that your car has not been set to use US gallons
This is an i-drive setup option somewhere - and I think needs to eb reset for both keys
