I was quite surprised to find a 12 volt socket in the trunk of my 530xi. It is located centrally on the opposite sidewall of the reg.plate. It was "hidden" behind a small security cap.

This was not mentioned in the specs of the car? Is it standard?

Should be standard, at least can be found in my 530i.

very cool - what other surprises await the owners of the new e60?

they need a second one in the cockpit, however.

There are two for the back seat in the middle centre console. You can use in the front seat as well.

My '05 545i has 2 in the cockpit--1 in the ashtray area, and the other under the dash just to the left of the glove box--covered by a door.

My salesperson said there was only one 12 volt outlet -- he sure doesn't know the details of the car but he sure
knew how to jack up the money factor on my lease without informing me! fortunately I haven't signed anything until we renegotiate this sticking point...

Stream,
I also have a 05 545i but I do not have a 12v outlet under the dash to the left of the glove box. Was this an option or part of a package? Did you self install? Or... Am I just blind and can not see it?

It's not that easy to see and not obvious what it is because of the cover.

I believe that all US-spec E60s have had five 12-volt outlets from the start. Two in the front (one in the ashtray, one low in the passenger-side footwell), two at the rear of the center console, and one in the trunk as described.
