Hello all. I am holping I can get some advice, as I usually do from the members here. A few months back I noticed a shimmy in the car at >70mph...most noticeable in the steering wheel and the accelerator pedal. Starts at 70 and i think it goes away at 80 or so (but not really sure it does go away). The advice I got from here was to balance the wheels and get an alignment. I got these done at the BMW dealership and the problem persists. Ant ideas on what else can be causing it? The car is 2005 545i CPO and the original warranty finished two or so months ago (now 54,xxx miles). Smooth sailing until 70mph so it really isnt that big of a problem and I dont want to spend thousands of dollars trying to figure it out. Anyone experience this issue before? PS: stock 124 style rims with RFT which I believe were new when I bought the car last year (I have since driven about 17,000 miles on them). Any help would be very much appreciated.
Its most likely your tires are starting to go to shit. This happened to me with my Generals. When I switched them to Michelins and got a new balancing and alignment I'm back to 140 mph and SMooOOoOOoth!

Thanks all for the great advice. Ill be getting an oil change in the next 2 months and have them check the front end. The tires look good as far as tread depth and I would have thought that they would not be able to balance the wheels if the rim or tire were bad, but I suppose that thinking may be wrong?
Howitzer, did u get rft's or switch to nonrft's? I know there have been many debates on the forum about this and it seems those who have gone nonrft are VERY happy with the ride. I am thinking of doing this in the near future and wonder if they can be mounted on staggered 124's (I was told the rims are different for rft vs non rft).

It's all ball bearings nowadays. Now you prepare that Fetzer valve with some 3-in-1 oil and some gauze pads, and then you're gonna need 'bout ten quarts of anti-freeze, preferably Prestone. No, no make that Quaker State.
