Sorry I mean from 4th to 5th .Even if I accelerate moderately it will not change gear so in the end I can be cruising at 3800-4000 rpm. But after it revs higher than 4100 rpm it change to 5th.

Using similar reasoning, I think it should shift to 5th with no reluctance if you are cruising at 4k in 4th. Iwill try to remember to notice tomorrow.

I just tried this on the way back home and there was no hesitation going from 4th to 5th in DS. In fact, if I'm only accelerating lightly it'd switch from 4th at around 3k RPM. The steptronics does seem to have a short-term memory of how aggressively you've been driving, as I've noticed that if I've been flooring it for a while, it'd stay at a high RPM, say 4-5k for at least 5 seconds or so. But if you've been driving passively it shouldn't do that.

When I am in DS the car tends to hold onto 3rd or 4th longer than in D - which makes perfect sense really.
When accelerating to about 50mph it will hang on to 4th for a little while even after I ease of on the gas.
However, once if I ease significantly back off the accelerator for a moment then progressively re-apply it changes up and holds in that gear.
Evidently it is hanging onto the gear in the expectation that I will want to accelerate hard again and it needs to be convinced that I have reachec crusing speed.
Following up on znod's posts, if it is safe to do so (ie no rain and no twisty bits) switching off DSC and DTC sharpens everything up and makes this process almost instantaneous.
