Hi everyone!

I have recently purchased a used BMW 2004 E60 330d from an authorised BMW dealer. I managed to have a 10 minute test drive prior to purchasing it and everything was brilliant and quiet.

The problem begins after the car arrived at my doorsteps and driven it for a bit with the car "loaded" up. By this I mean the car is stuffed with the things I would usually put in my car, such as child seat, cds, some files in the boot, torchlight in the glove compartment, etc.

The road near my house is pebbled and so it is kind of rough. When I drive over it I noticed rattling noises from the interior and it is quite loud. It seems to be coming from the glove compartment and somewhere in the rear. I tried removing some things from my glove compartment and it did reduce the noise a tiny bit but I am still having lots of noises when travelling on rough surfaces. It sounds like plastic creaking or some objects under harsh vibration. I used to own a E36 before this upgrade and everything was quite in the interior except for some squeaking noise from windows which were fixed by aplying some lubricant.

I don't have a chance to drive it more to ascertain the cause as I am very busy with work etc. I am just dissapointed that a branded and expensive car such as BMW having this interior noise. I am almost sure the noise is not caused by the objects I placed in the car but it is coming from the car itself. I am wondering if anyone is familiar with this problem? I am hoping for some advice before calling up my dealer as I really need the car for commuting but this noise is really spoiling my mood.

Try this for the glovebox...

The rear shelf I have a slight rattle too but dealer cant hear it after the cars warm... its more noticable in the mornings... so they didnt fix anything last time I took it in. I'm letting that be for now.

But many people have had that rear shelf rattle and I've heard of different solutions from loose wire to loose latch to somthing loose just in the trunk if you stick your head all teh way inside the trunk and look.

Welcome. You could make sure your spare, if you have one, is secured. But, I doubt the spare, if present, is your problem.

Thanks for the replies. It is 530d sorry, my mistake as I used to own a 3 series

I will try to look at the trunk to see if there is anything loose in there. It just upsets me as my previous (non leather) 3 series was way quieter bar the wind and road noise at speed.

I will drive the car more over the weekend to pinpoint the source. I am just wondering if any others have the same iritating issue with your E60? Even though mine is two years old but it only has 12500 miles on the clock. ;(
