All tires will get noisier as they wear down. In the case of the Dunlops, the irregular wear was quite obvious and would happen as early as 7000 miles or so. If your tires have 18,000 on them and they began to get noisy at around 15,000, it sounds like everything is "normal" on your car. Getting 18,000 miles out of a Z-rated tire is pretty good, actually...
I know. I've had "Z" rated tires on other cars and only gotten about 15,000 to 17,000 miles out of them. I was hoping to get a free set of Dunlop's but it looks like that will not be happening. Since there's still sufficient tread left, I will probably take them off the car soon d replace them with Michelin or Bridgestone non-RF's. I'll save these and put them back on at the end of my lease (November, 2009).

I would talk to your SA. You might still be able to get a free set of Dunlops. I had 17,000 miles on my Dunlop run flats and they replaced them free of charge. There was still tread on the tires but there was irregular wear on the inside tread and they were noisy.

As he explained above, he did do what you suggested and the SA explained that the irregular wear was not present so he wasn't able to qualify for the free replacement set...

well i just pulled a service history from my SA and it looks like the previous owner actually already had them changed once at 21,050 miles. i just got off the phone with BMWNA and they basically told me to contact Dunlop because the service bulletin is over and since they werent OE tires they cannot help me not to mention im over the allowed mileage limit by about 5,000 miles even though the original owner was as well. Dunlop is currently closed for the weekend so i will call them on Monday with my fingers and toes crossed hoping they can at the very least cover some of the cost for a new set or tires. i highly doubt it though.

btw: BMWNA reps (spoke with 2) had no clue what i was talking about until i gave them the service bulletin number and read the whole thing to them over the phone. you would think they would be aware of this problem, after all they do work there.

this sucks! the tires sound like im driving an f-150 with a lift kit from the outside.
