Does it come from the passenger side. If it does I have had many people tell me that it could be the Ac compressor. But I have taken my to the dealer and they refuse to fix it. They tell me its just a ticking noise, but no its not just a ticking noise, I replied I did not pay 50k for a ticking noise. I have been arguing and keep fighting with them to fix it. The problem is not enopugh oil getting into the engine it gets clooged or stuck thats what I think it is. They performed a hva bleed test but it didn't do anything. The noise on my car ticks a least once a week, at times it gets pretty loud and ticks faster. If i were you I would take it to the dealer soon, see waht they say, if they fix it please let me know. Is your car a 3.0 liter v6, this is a very common issue with these cars. Good luck I shure need it. Ramiz

I've owned 4 BMW's in the last 12 and we have had almost all the models in our family including M6. If you're talking about the ticking noise right after you turn off the car its normal. It gets pretty loud at times. If it happens when the car is sitting idle overnight only when the temperature drops that would be odd unless you have climate timer setup.

Do you have the Webasto heater (Auxiallary heater) option. I have it on mine and there is a ticking noise from the fuel pump (a tick approx. every 1/2 second.). The pump is located under the rear floor on the left side. Look under your car. It's only in cold weather you will hear this noise. You can actually feel it if put your hand on the floor.
