i bought the car 5 months ago. just ticked to 120k miles. bought it at 100k miles. all of the 20k miles is pure highway. most of it bw TX and NJ. no way in hell i am selling this car. i agree the problems are not something i can ignore. but its not something that will make the car run less efficiently. its just standard fixes you have to do at this milage. My e46 needed 2 headgasket replacements and an engine rebuild. after doing all that this is a piece of cake for me. time consuming, definitely.worth the effort. YESSS.. I love my bimmer and will do everything to make it right. this car takes me 1000s of miles without ever dropping below 500 miles to the tank. thats an indicator the engine is good. but needs a bit of maintenance but i love her..!!
Something tells me your CCV and associated hoses could be the culprits. They get brittle over time and break easily. Maybe something broke when the dealer worked on it. I broke my CCV hose while replacing my starter and didn't even know I did. I just replaced that one hose but I also saw a kit that has the CCV and all hoses.

i think you are right. it could be the hoses. the dealer had done a pcv valve replacement for free maybe he damaged something there. i am removing the intake and the valve cover. i saw some leaks behind the valve cover. could be the ccv hose.

So I finally got around to degreasing the CCV pathways in the valve cover. I used a gunk cleaner and sprayed almost half a can before it started to spill out the other end. ( i sprayed from the outside of the valve cover where the pcv hose is attached). I then pressure washed it with water and engine cleaner at a self service car wash. I washed the Intake manifold as well. there was some oil in the intake manifold. Now to the thing thats confusing me --> no leaks under the intake manifold or behind the valve cover. I have cleaned the remaining oil leak deposit i had from the OFHG. the only leak i have is the oil pan gasket and i do not think its leaking that bad. Anyways i hope this will solve some of my problems. I am going to install a catch can in the next week or so. I could not find a hose that goes back to the oil pan. i do not understand how this ccv works but its a BS system. I will do the changes and report back.
In the photos you can see the new membrane i have installed. its not as complicated as it feels. next thing on the list is oil pan gasket. need to see how much of an improvement that makes.
Any other oil leaks in this engine ? i can check those too and make sure its good.
