After a year of trying to live with Run flats (on my 2007 535d M Sport), I today changed the lot for Michelin PS2's.

You would not believe the difference! It is like driving a totally different car. I have no idea what made BMW decide to put these awful tyres on their fantastic cars.

The ride quality now is a revelation. The new tyres are much quieter, and the car no longer judders as it moves over London's poor roads. The car also feels more secure on a very wet road. I thoroughly recommend everyone to take the step. Believe me, you won't regret it.

By the way, Kwik Fit gave me a great deal.

I agree 100% - the run flats are Delta Sierra. My 2008 550i Sport will come with Coni non-run flats, and I will jettison those and install a nice set of PS2s as soon as the car arrives at the dealer.

it's-so-fly without run flat!

indeed run-flat is better with high profile ratio. low profile run-flat is awful.

I don't know. I liked them on my last 550 but of course I had 9 flat tires so they made life a lot easier.

Has BMW ever commented on the reason for the run a flats?

It seems like its far and few in between of people who actually like them. Just looking at the forums around the net BMW has had to have many and I mean many loyal customers b*tching to them about it.

Something so simple to change it makes you scratch your head.

I've been told BMW got paid for installing run-flat on production cars.

I truly haven't experienced mine w/out the run flats but I do have to say that having a flat rear tire recently surely made the difference. I was able to use the tire for several days before the deal could replace it.

I have to say that I like the concept of run-flats and in my experience for the first 50% of their tread life they seem to be fine.

After that as they wear the progressive increase in noise and degradation in ride quality makes me wonder why BMW allow their
customers to endure what becomes the ride and handling of Massey Ferguson's best...?

Improved technology is great, but if it turns customers off then perhaps it needs some more development....
