I've not had any heat problems, thankfully since I am in South Dakota. You definately have something wrong, and the first consideration should be the thermostat sticking open.

+1

This would be the most logical place to start if all the settings are correct in the car (sounds like they are). Stuck thermostat causes exactly what your saying your car is doing. Since your under warranty set up an appt. with dealership and get the free loaner and enjoy another BMW while yours is being tended to.

I'm also in the Minneapolis area and this happened to my 2004 530i last winter. The cause of the problem was the engine thermostat. The climate control system will not turn on fully if the engine doesn't get up to the prescribed temperature. I assume Sears checked that out, but it could be that it's sluggish and taking awhile to close.

I'm finding that I also have a few gremlins at sub-zero temperatures. When it's really cold (<-10), I have a traction control sensor that errors out intermittently and this morning I noticed that I had hot air, but the fan wouldn't turn on fully unless the defrost was on. One my 30 min. commute, the cabin was still pretty cold.

Good luck...
Thanks for the responses from my fellow cold Minneapolitans. I will ask Sears if they checked the engine thermostat. The climate control system in this E60 is way too complicated. The system in the old E39 worked just fine.

I had the same problem on my 07 525xi. Last week the dealer replaced the thermostat (Permanent failure according to the paperwork) and a water valve that was not opening all the way. Now I get some heat but compared to my other cars, the BMW does not heat up as quickly. I find that the "Auto" setting blows too much air on the windshield before the air get warm then directs the flow to the middle or floor. I think it is very sad that for an expensive car the best heat setting is a manual setting that you have to control. My brother-in-law's Honda has a better system.

What ever happened with your climate control problem?
