2 nights ago my heat decided to stop working for the most part on my 2005 545i with only 38,000 miles. now with the heat on both sides cranked the the maximum, i have ICE COLD air blowing out of the 2 passenger side vents and only LUKE WARM air blowing out of the driver's side vents. anybody else have this problem?

I would check my antifreeze levels. That flows from the motor to the heater core which gives the car heat. If its low then you may have air in the system and it might need to be bled or "burped" as some people call it. I would check the small things like mentioned above about the iDrive. Make sure that the small lines are red instead of blue. I know it sounds silly but its commonly over looked. Hope this helps

Hop down and then over to the blue, then spin the iDrive wheel.

what is the damn point of this function? if i want to adjust the temp, i would just use the dial. why do i have to have "red lines" in the idrive setting to get heat? i can guarantee come summer i'll think my a/c is dead because i don't have the "blue lines" showing

you can tell i've only owned japanese cars up until now

The four blue, four red and one white bars have more control over temp than any other knob you may wish to tweak. In the fall, I use two red and in winter crank it up to four red. When summer comes and you have a crazy mix of hot and cold you'll remember to switch to four blue (or you can ask us here at the forum).

I just keep my temp in the center which is the one white line. Everything works just as I want it. If my A/C doesnt get cold enough in the winter then I give it a couple of red notches and vise versa when it is summer but never need to. Try that for a while and see if it works for you.

Where the heck does this come from when its clear the op doesn't even know how to check the idrive to adjust the temp distribution???

No disrespect OP but check your owners manual or look online for the functions your idrive contains... lots of stuff in there! I hope that was your problem. If not, check for codes.
