Am I right in thinking that the E60 does not have any means of
issuing a warning, either audible or pictorial, if a door is left slightly open?

Every car I've owned has had this, and when you're frequently carrying
back seat passengers it can be useful to keep an extra eye on them...

My E60 (09/2003) has both, an acoustic warning and a picture showing which door is still open. And if the first E60 have, all the others should have this warning too.

But the warning starts not until you move the car. Only starting the engine is not enough.
If that doesn't work with your car, you maybe should contact your dealer.

I had just switched off my engine with "N" selected rather than "P" and when I opened the door I got both the audible and visual signal.

I know it's silly. It only chimes when the car is moving with a door open.

It should just display an 'open' door warning in the display when the door is open and the engine running.
Don't see why they need to wait until the car is moving.

Because if they did, someone else would say it's silly and that they ought to only show the warning if the car begins to move...

Heheh thats right.

I like it the way it is now. I dont need to know that my door is open when I opened it or left it open on purpose... I get annoyed at the Lexus for *DING* *DING* *DING* *Dinging* at me when I start the car and open the door. Its like shhhhh I know...

Once I start moving and it dings is enough earning for me.

Hahah soooo hard to please all of us with one setting...

Ah, the little things seem somewhat over-engineered sometimes hey? If that is even possible, lol.
