I suppose it does make sense because the memory function stores your mirror position as well as your seat position.
I would have thought that mirror memory and mirror dipping are independent of each other and inclusion of such functionality is purely a marketing decision.

I agree with this view. In fact I too found this very weird.

There are many such relations that I cannot understand. e.g. Heated Steering only possible with Heated seats, rear boot cigar lighter only possible with thru-load etc.

Damn those Bavarians.... i'll have to be ultra careful with the 172's... the mirror has the motor so the dipping must be part of a ROM Chip or a software item if it's only avaliable with mem seats

Please be careful with the 172's!!! The empty feeling you get when you hear that crunch is not nice! Believe me

On realoem.com, from what I can tell, there are two different parts called "drive" -- one for cars without memory seats and one for cars with memory seats. It makes sense that the part that support memory seats would also support the dipping function since somehow the mirrors position has to be stored and/or indexed.

If correct, that seems to support the theory that you need memory seats to get the auto dipping -- it may have no bearing on whether the mirrors fold or not...
